Research Assistant

DESCRIPTION:

The Centre for Global Health Research (CGHR), University of Toronto,

St. Michael's Hospital is seeking a talented and skilled Research Assistant.

The successful candidate will work on existing large scale epidemiology research projects under the supervision of CGHR's scientists.

CGHR conducts high-quality research that advances global health with emphasis on avoidance of large causes of death worldwide.

This is a full time 6 months contract position (renewable).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will be providing research assistance on various projects relating to child mortality, tobacco and disease control priorities. Work includes literature reviews, data collection, communication with various stakeholders, assistance in preparation of manuscripts, reports and presentations, as well as preparation of tables, figures and support in grant writing.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Masters in the area of public health or epidemiology, or BSc with experience as a research assistant, preferably in epidemiology.
• Strong experience in literature retrieval and review, including experience with bibliography management software (e.g. EndNote/Reference Manager).
• Developed quantitative research skills with command of epidemiological concepts, study design and data analysis.
• Applicant must be self directed and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Experience with MS Excel and/or Stata, SAS or R.
• Excellent communication skills (to interact with a group of statisticians, epidemiologists, and global health researchers).
• Excellent time management and organizational skills, good oral and written communication, problem solving skills and an ability to multitask.
• Interest in health issues of developing countries.
• Must have an excellent attendance record.
